You've decided on getting a tattoo, and you'd like the process to be as painless as possible. I don't blame you! Many over-the-counter numbing products can be used to prevent some of the pain of getting a tattoo, such as Anesten, BLT Cream, Dr. Numb, and others. Please make sure to speak with me during your consultation to determine which of these products works best for you.
Already had your consultation and just need a little guidance? You're in the right place. See the step-by-step instructions below for guidance on how to apply your chosen numbing cream.
Note that numbing cream must be applied 3-4 hours before your appointment to be effective.
Razor
Any razor designed for shaving is acceptable. It is best to use a fresh razor to get the closest shave.
Exfoliant
Using a body scrub prior to application can significantly increase the numbing cream's effectiveness. This product is optional but recommended.
Gloves
Using gloves will ensure that only the desired area is numbed during the application process.
Numbing Cream
This can be Anesten, BLT cream, Dr. Numb, or another numbing agent. Please make sure to discuss your choice with me during your consultation.
Plastic Wrap
Any brand of plastic wrap will work to secure the numbed area. If the numbed area is a hand, a glove is recommended in place of plastic wrap.
Surgical Tape
This will be used to secure the plastic wrap over the numbed area. If the numbed area is a hand and a glove is being used in place of plastic wrap, surgical tape is not needed.
